Feeling controlled by notifications and the need to be connected has become a common experience in our modern world. The never-ending stream of alerts, instant messages, and updates can create a sense of need, leaving us little to no room for much-needed mental rest. This bombardment of stimuli can have serious effects on our mental state. Research has shown that a lot of screen time is associated with higher levels of stress and anxiety. The need to keep up with the latest news, and updates, and social needs can leave us feeling anxious and drained. Continuous use of devices can destroy our attention span.
By unplugging our electronic devices, even if only for short periods, we can experience a bunch of psychological benefits. Getting away from the stream of notifications makes our minds unwind. Without the stimuli, our stress levels will lower, and our chances to relax and find peace. Disconnecting from devices before bedtime can give you better sleep quality, as the blue light from the screens can disrupt our circadian rhythm and our ability to fall asleep and cause REM sleep to decrease. These moments of tech-free can give you a sense of mindfulness, helping you to be in the here and now.
The psychological positives of putting down devices are important for our mental state. Causing smaller stress makes us get over these challenges with resilience, getting rid of a good portion of stress and the negative parts of stress on our overall health. Enjoying better sleep not only leaves us feeling better but has long-term effects. Also Gives a sense of awareness of us and the world.
By understanding the effects of our use of our devices, we can have control over our lives and use our mental health. It's not about getting rid of technology and it has many positives. But any overuse can have negative impacts on our mental state.
